ABOUT CPR

What is CPR?

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation or CPR essentially means to revive the heart & lungs using a combined technique of chest compressions & mouth-to-mouth breathing. Important organs in our body such as the heart, lungs & brain, require oxygen to function. When breathing in, oxygen from the environment enters the lungs & the heart pumps this oxygen rich blood, circulating it to the tissues & organs.

Why should I learn CPR?

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation or CPR essentially means to revive the heart & lungs using a combined technique of chest compressions & mouth-to-mouth breathing. Important organs in our body such as the heart, lungs & brain, require oxygen to function. When breathing in, oxygen from the environment enters the lungs & the heart pumps this oxygen rich blood, circulating it to the tissues & organs.

Having CPR training gives the knowledge, self-assurance, and correct skills to help someone in need while remaining calm during medical emergency.

By being prepared to intervene everywhere a cardiac arrest occurs, those with CPR certification are ready to make a difference in their community.

When is CPR performed?

We perform CPR when the heart & or lungs stop working. This can happen in many situations. The most common example would be a heart attack, where the blood supply to the heart is blocked & the heart muscle is not able to function. Other conditions that may cause the heart and lungs to stop functioning include drowning, severe asthma & electrocution.

Patient experience often reflects the personal side of care, such as how willing doctors and nurses are to listen, answer questions and explain treatments; how much time the doctor spends with the patient; and how comfortable patients find the hospital in terms of cleanliness and the quality of food served. One important way is to look at the hospital performance report which helps consumers make informed choices
